Islands
Morning flight to San Cristobal Island and transfer to the yacht.
After on Lobos Island, home to hordes of blue footed boobies.
June 4 - Tower Island
After a wet landing on Darwin Bay, a coral beach, the trail goes past tide pools
where swallow tailed and lava gulls are seen.
Enter a forest of salt bush where colonies of Great Frigate birds are
nesting. Later take a panga ride to
view more wildlife near Prince Phillips steps.
Here are colonies of red-footed boobies in mangrove trees.
At the end of the trail, we'll see red-billed tropic birds, masked
boobies, fur seals, storm petrels and short-eared owls.
June 5 - Fernandina
Island/Isabela
In the morning, visit Fernandina with the largest colony of marine iguanas in
The Galapagos. Sea lions, hawks and
flightless cormorants also are in abundance in this area.
Don't forget the active volcano with its recent lava flows.
In the afternoon, visit the largest island in the Galapagos, Isabela. Here discover marine life and penguins. Five volcanos are still active.
June 6 - Bartolome
Island/South Plaza Island
On Bartolome Island, it seems like being on the moon as this young island is
inhospitable to most plants and animals. After
a 30 minute climb, enjoy panoramic views from "Pinnacle Rock," an
eroded tuff cone. Below the water
is crystal clear with schools of fish. Penguins are usually spotted as are sea turtles and
white-tipped sharks. On South Plaza
Island, sea lions grumble as we reach the docks since they fill the beaches.
Sheer cliffs further down are home to the red-billed tropic birds and
swallow tailed gulls.
June 7 - Santa Cruz Island
This island is home to the Charles Darwin Research Station.
Have your picture taken with giant tortoises and year old baby tortoises
that are part of the international research, conservation and breeding programs.
June 8 - Florena Island
This is the southern most island of the archipelago.
One of the few populated islands, Floreana was first visited by 18th
century whalers who opened an unofficial post office in a barrel.
It has been in service ever since. Clear
water and fine coral growth make it an ideal spot for snorkeling.
June 9 - Hood Island
Here is an abundance of sea lions, many of whom will snorkel with visitors.
The island also is home to Espanola Mockingbirds, oystercatchers, marine
iguanas and Galapagos hawks.
Overnight: Evenings spent aboard an
83-foot/20 passenger motor yacht.
