We began this journey in Barcelona ("BCN" on the Sabre airline ticketing system) because we had the to opportunity to stop-over there, and it is a city we haven't previously been too. Although we will be going back to Spain in October/November of this year (plus Portugal and North Africa), Barcelona wasn't included with that touring. So, it was a great opportunity for us to explore the city on our own.

In a nutshell, "Terrific!" Barcelona has a great metro system so it's easy to get around town (including to/from the airport) without relying on taxis. The city is filled with tree-lined boulevards that lead to some tremendous sights, especially those designed by the Modernist architect, Antoni Gaudi. Despite being created and built more than 100 years ago, these churches and buildings are still spectacular (check out the photo's!). Finally, we also enjoyed wonderful seafood and delicious local wines and Barcelona had an abundance of both! (When in Spain don't miss the "Cava" (i.e., champagne). It's fabulous and inexpensive!)
