We actually left home on the 2nd of July to begin this adventure.  We didn’t head directly to Alaska but took a bit of a circuitous route.  First, we spent a couple of nights in Denver, Colorado enjoying the company of family (Renee & Marc).  They showed us a terrific time and it was a great way to begin the trip.  We then drove to Fernie, British Columbia.  Here we rendezvoused with Derek Nees, an excellent angler who was our fishing guide at Poronui Ranch in New Zealand.  Derek has his own operation in Fernie, FishNFly, and we spent two days with him fly fishing the Wigwam & Elk Rivers.  We had excellent fishing for bull trout and cutthroat trout and lots of fun in the process.

After fishing with Derek, we drove to Edmonton and then flew to High Arctic Lodge for a week of fly fishing.  It was our second visit and we had great fishing albeit in some pretty tough arctic conditions (see HIGH ARCTIC LODGE ’04).  After leaving the lodge, we drove to Prince Rupert, British Columbia to begin our Alaska adventure as described through the links below.
