MARTIN PESCADOR LODGE
WEEK TWO:  18 MARCH - 24 MARCH

DAY 1 (Saturday, March 18):  We began our second week of fishing with Mike on the Rio Yelcho.  We spent the afternoon catching lots of rainbows.  Ed landed a 20” rainbow that was a real beauty.

DAY 2 (Sunday, March 19):  We woke up to a terrible rain storm.  However, as luck had it, the day was gray but without additional rain.  We had some wonderful fishing.  This wasn’t a numbers day but a size day.  We each landed 5-6 rainbows and Lindy got a gorgeous 26”x17” rainbow of about 8 lbs.  It was lots of fun!

DAY 3 (Monday, March 20):  Today we fished the Rio Yelcho with Derek.  We had the entire river to ourselves so we fished both the upper and lower beats.  We caught so many fish we lost count!  The highlight of the day was Ed hooking a brown trout estimated to be in the high 20 inch range.  Ed played it for about 20 minutes and just as Derek was getting the net out, the rascal escaped.  Oh well, it was still a thrill.  Ed also had follows, but no takes, from another huge brown and an even larger rainbow.  Tonight our send-off meal (leaving the Yelcho Lodge for the Rosselot Lodge) was again held in the quincho but featured Anna’s home-made pizza.  It was a real treat cooked over a wood fire.  ¡Muy delicioso!

DAY 4 (Tuesday, March 21):  We again opted to fish the Rio Yelcho; this time our guide was Mike.  We didn’t move any monsters but we caught incredible numbers of brown trout, mostly in the 14”-16” range.  So, we enjoyed great fishing as well as great weather.

DAY 5 (Wednesday, March 22):  We once again fished with Todd on Lago Rosselot.  It proved to be another fabulous dry fly fishing day.  It even exceeded the fishing we had on the Lago in early February.  We fished both the foam line and the flats and caught an incredible number of browns and rainbows.  We also had a couple of doubles (both of us hooked and landed fish) in the foam line and one in the flats.  Again, another excellent day!

DAY 6 (Thursday, March 23):   The weather was cold and rainy today.  However, it never bothers the fish so off we went to a channel of the Rio Rosselot with Mike.  We each caught and landed a number of browns.  Lindy also hooked (but lost) “Walter,” a huge brown trout the guys estimated to be well over 30 inches.  Oh well, we now know he lives there!

DAY 7 (Friday, March 24):  Our final day of fishing was spent on Lago Rosselot with Derek.  The fishing was slow in the morning and the rainy, windy weather didn’t help.  However, we did manage to catch fish in each spot we tried.  Then, in the afternoon, the weather cleared a bit and we caught tons of fish on the flats.  So, it was a great close to the week.  Speaking of which, Anna made us a special send-off dinner – burrito night!  Everyone had a great time gorging on home-made tortillas, shredded pork, beef strips, guacamole, beans, rice, etc. and some margaritas (these foods are not typical Chilean diet so it was very special).

Our second week at Martin Pescador was again excellent.   We really enjoy both lodges.  Frans and Anna are wonderful hosts and all the guides and staff are terrific.  There’s lots of great fishing in the area and each night you return to a delicious meal, fine wines and fun company.  We’re already looking forward to our 2007 visit!
