MARTIN PESCADOR LODGE
WEEK ONE:  4 FEBRUARY - 10 FEBRUARY

DAY 1 (Saturday, February 4):  After transferring to the lodge and settling in, we went out fishing for a few hours on the Rio Yelcho with Derek.  We each caught a couple of nice rainbows and a brown but it was rainy, windy and cold.  So, returned to our comfy cabin to freshen up and then went to the main lodge building to relax and enjoy dinner with the other anglers.

DAY 2 (Sunday, February 5):   We enjoyed fishing with Mike on the Rio Negro today.  We had fished it the prior year with excellent results.  It was true to form today as Ed landed two 23” browns, one of which was ~6lbs.  Lindy was also able to land two rainbows.

DAY 3 (Monday, February 6):  We once again fished with Derek on the Rio Yelcho  We each landed incredible numbers of browns and rainbows.  In fact, we were so busy, we forgot to take any pictures!!  In the evening, we were treated to a great “cuaranto” – a feast of shellfish and salads and vegetables along with sausages, all of which is cooked and served in the quincho.

DAY 4 (Tuesday, February 7):  Today we headed out to Lago Yelcho with Frans to fish along the weedy shoreline.  Unfortunately, the wind was terrible and we had to forego the lake.  Instead, we fished the Rio Rosselot.  It was tough fishing but Ed did manage five nice fish.  Thankfully, Lindy finally hooked and landed one at the end of the day.  Otherwise, Frans would still have us out on the river!

DAY 5 (Wednesday, February 8):  We enjoyed our first day of fishing with Todd on the Rio Figueroa.  This was definitely a numbers kind of day.  We caught between 40-50 fish.  Most were rainbows in the 16-18” range.  We had lots of fun hooking, fighting and releasing these beautiful trout.  Lindy did manage to catch a 21” rainbow, which is a very large fish for the Figueroa.

DAY 6 (Thursday, February 9):   We once again fished with Mike on Lago Rosselot.  It proved to be fabulous dry fly fishing.  For Lindy, it was the best ever because she could actually spot the fish and then make a cast to one.  It was tons of fun!

DAY 7 (Friday, February 10):  Our last day of fishing was spent on the Lago Claro Solar with Derek.  This fishing was only part of the adventure because the lake is accessed via an oxen cart.  Also, no motors are allowed on the lake so it’s a lot of work for the guide.  Ed was able to land a beautiful 24” rainbow on a dry fly and some small browns too.  After we returned to the lodge, we had a great Asado (feast of barbequed lamb) send-off.

We once again had an excellent stay at Martin Pescador.   Both lodges are terrific and Frans and Anna are wonderful hosts.  There’s lots of great fishing in the area and each night you return to a delicious meal, fine wines and fun company.  We didn’t even have to be sad about leaving since we knew we were back in about five weeks!
