31 January:  Today we began our adventure to South America and, in particular to Buenos Aires.  While the weather at home wasn’t bad (just a bit of snow on the ground), severe winds at D/FW Airport presented travel challenges.  Our flight from Albuquerque to DFW was held for an hour before we were given permission to take-off.  We landed at DFW in time to run (literally) for our flight to Miami.  We made it aboard (yeah!) but we feared our bags may not have done so.  When we reached Miami, we had a leisurely connect time of 25 minutes (yes, we’re being sarcastic since our gate was 2 terminals away).  Still it seemed like a promenade to make this flight compared to the one in Dallas although we were a bit disappointed that we had no time to enjoy the American Airlines Admirals Club.  Anyway, we settled aboard our 767 in business class and enjoyed wonderful service, a delicious meal and fabulous wines en route to Santiago, Chile. (Note: On this flight Lindy exceeded 2 million AA miles and now is platinum for life!)

1 February:  We arrived in Santiago at 7:30AM.  Since we were in transit, we did not have to clear customs so we went to relax at the LAN lounge until our departure for Buenos Aires at 12:30PM.  As always, it was very comfortable and the staff was very gracious and attentive.  We arrived in Buenos Aires at 3:30PM (there’s a one hour time change).  Unfortunately, however, our baggage didn’t arrive with us.  So, we spent some time learning it was still in Miami.  Oh well!  This was not surprising and not totally disappointing.  LAN personnel advised that it would be delivered to our hotel the following afternoon.  So, after obtaining amenity kits so that we had a few basic necessities, we took the Manual Tienda Leon bus into its central terminal.  From there, we transferred to our hotel via van.  We arrived at our suite hotel at 6:00PM. While our check-in was speedy, the manager spent a great deal of time advising us on what sites to see, things to do while in Buenos Aires, etc.  Since we were somewhat exhausted, at 7:00PM we opted to eat in our room so we walked to a local supermercado to purchase items for dinner, including those incredible wines of Argentina.  We returned back to the Obelisco Suites at 8:00PM and managed to stay awake until 10:00PM so we would be on schedule the next day.

2 February:  We spent the morning exploring the main shopping pedways of Buenos Aires.  It was only a few short blocks from our hotel.  We especially enjoyed the Galleria located on Florida and Cordoba streets.  The architecture was very beautiful!  Also we took photographs of the beautiful obelisk (obelisco) the symbol of Buenos Aires located a block from the hotel.  We returned to the hotel at 1:00PM (still no luggage) and opted to take an afternoon tour of Buenos Aires as suggested by the hotel manager.  By bus, we toured the various neighborhoods of Buenos Aires.  We made several stops and highlights included the Plaza de Mayo with its government buildings and main cathedral and the caminitos (colorful streets) of La Boca.  We returned to the hotel about 6:00PM and, hurray, our belongings had been delivered by LAN!!   It wasn’t a moment too soon as we had an early ferry ride the next morning to Colonia de Sacramento in Uruguay.
