MARTIN PESCADOR LODGE

Home Up

We spent two wonderful weeks fishing at one of our favorite lodges, Martin Pescador Lodge (www.martinpescadorfishing.com).  In 2006, we spent two weeks fishing at the lodge but not during sequential weeks.  We think this trip worked out even better (and we are proud to say we were only semi-exhausted after 13-1/2 days of continuous fly fishing).

Our hosts, Frans and Anna Jansen, have a tremendous operation.  Frans, a phenomenal angler, is the Master Guide and his lovely wife, Anna, is a world-class chef.  Along with their guides and staff, Frans and Anna ensure that all guests have great fishing opportunities while enjoying the setting, hospitality, fine wines and superb food at their two lodges.   Having lodges on both the Rio Yelcho and the Rio Rosselot provides access to varied fly fishing waters in two unique and beautiful locations.  Also, the move from one lodge to the other is “transparent” to the guest as Anna and her staff transport your belongings while you’re enjoying a day on the water.

At both locations, anglers gather around the bar at day’s end for a cocktail and appetizers before enjoying a gourmet dinner.  Also, two traditional Chilean dinners are held each week.  Both are prepared and served in a “quincho” – an out-building which houses a huge barbeque pit and a large family-style table.  One is an “asado” featuring baby lamb cooked over an open flame and the other is a “curanto” featuring fresh seafood (mussels and clams), meats and sausages.  Both dinners are accompanied with a variety of side dishes (and, of course, fine Chilean wines).  These meals are very special and give the visitor a glimpse into the warm & wonderful Chilean culture.

Please check out the photographic highlights of our trip – both fishing and non-fishing experiences.  We want to stress fishing “highlights” because we hooked and released large numbers of fish each day (and we lost a few too!).  So, there’s lots of fun and action even without a monster fish.  We enjoy Martin Pescador Lodge so much, we’ll be returning once again in 2008!
