After exploring the Mainland, our next highlight was traveling to and visiting Kangaroo Island. We arrived via the ferry (with our car) and stayed in a cabin from which we were able to tour & hike. There was great scenery everywhere but we really enjoyed Flinders National Park. We hit several trails throughout the next few days and enjoyed seeing kangaroos & wallabies in their habitat. On one 10km hike we got away from the beaten track and were able to get some great video and photographs of kangaroos. Near our cabin, we also saw wild koalas in a eucalyptus stand. It was also great fun in the evening to sit on our deck and watch the wallabies (they look like small kangaroos) hop about. We were also surprised when an Australian possum came right up to our deck as well. In addition to wildlife, we also enjoyed seeing the Cape de Coueric Lighthouse. Very scenic! KI has some great seafood and Ed made a couple of feasts – one with a giant crayfish and the other with King George Whiting. Both delicious! We also enjoyed some fresh oysters while we were at the American River.

After enjoying this special place, we made our way back to Melbourne (via Mt. Gambier & Ballarat) for the long-ride home. We’ll definitely be looking forward to future explorations in Oz!
